Sofie's wardrobe refashion

Sofie is in year 9 at school and they run a special course (in addition to the usual subjects) for the year called the Ayin Program which is a multi-disciplinary program. One of their tasks this semester was to "go green" and included in that was an option to rework a piece of clothing that was past it's use by.

Sofie chose to rework an old evening dress. Here is the glamorous frock modelled by her sister Ellen:

Sofie prepared sketches of what she wanted to do to the dress. Unfortunately she had already handed the them in to the teacher so I can't show you those. They were really good, most impressed with her fashion drawing ability. We found some poly in the stash for her to use and this is what she came up with:

The dress is a bit big (well not the length!) on Ellen as it was made for another student to model at school. Next semester Sofie will be studying textile arts as well. It is good to see sewing is still alive in some schools here in Melbourne!

That is one talented family you have (including you!). Amazing transformation on the dress - schools in melbourne sound much better the the one I went to! (Debbie's right, I almost thought that was you modelling the dress).

Wow - that is so cool! First, your daughter's redesign is incredible! Second, we never got neat classes like that when I was in highschool...

Okay, I am showing this to my DD in hope that maybe this will help inspire her to sew one day. There's a lot to be said for owning one-of-a-kind pieces like this dress!

Wow! You wouldn't know it was the same dress. Your daughter has good vision. Evem though the dress is too big for your daughter we do get the idea of what the model will look like. Great job and yes, thankfully sewing arts are alive somewhere.....

Amazing result. Wouldn't recognize the second dress as a result from the first. Bet Sophie will get very high marks for this. Very current style too. Congratulations to her.

The refashioned dress is super cute! And what a great idea for a sewing related "go green" project. speed. I'll have to remember the idea for our ASG sewing camp.

What a great project! I wish we had more programs like that out here. If it's not on the state test - we don't teach it in California :-(
