Cottons for $10 a metre - were originally $32 per metre. I so need some summer clothes to beat this heat. But unfortunately it is too hot to sew!!
And I bought this (supposedly) silk fabric. Black and white checks with Burgundy/wine flowers. It is a taffeta with a bit of sheen - perfect for that Burda WOF trench. Sorry no numbers for now and anyway it won't be started for a while. I am thinking a perfect garment for my birthday in April. Here is a close up of the flowers:
Now, I am not convinced it is a silk as the burn test tells me it has a bit (or a lot) of plastic in it. There was no label on the bolt so I asked the sales assistant who assured me it was silk. It certainly was a silk price. So what to do? Complain as I was misled and ask for my money back or keep it anyway because it is gorgeous? I will see how I feel once I cool down (literally).
Today was the highest Melbourne temperature on record - 46.4C. And there are bushfires burning over a lot of the state - most very close to Melbourne. The weather has changed, and the temp has dropped to 26, but it is still windy. Keep us in your prayers.

Lovely fabrics, no advice on what to do with you "silk". Think a day about what you want for yourself.
And those temperatures are really aweful, hope you get cooler weather soon.
Nice haul of fabric. If the "silk" is intended for a trench, then being a synthetic or blend might not be a bad thing, especially if it gets wet. Hope your weather gets better soon. I don't think either of us is winning at the moment.
Beautiful fabric and I'd keep it even if it isn't silk
And I'm thinking of you and the hot weather and hope it cools down VERY soon.
Great fabric finds!
Beautiful fabrics. I am tempted to send my sister shopping for me (there is a silk taffeta dress 101 in the Feb BWOF that I love), but I don't think she would want to leave the air conditioning. Those temperatures are horrible. I hope there is a break in the weather for you soon.
Lovely fabric! Keep it :)
Hope you get some relieve from your so hot temperatures!
Definitely keep the fabric, it's gorgeous and will be perfect for a trench. the news about the fires is terrible, I'll certainly be thinking of you all and hoping the situation changes soon.
Hey, just thinking of you- stay safe ;)
Ooh, glad you're not in the brushfire area. Stay safe!
Your new fabrics are yummy. I do love the pseudo silk taffeta. But I think I'd complain a little of the mistake made by the salesperson.
I have been thinking of you all and your fires. I hope they are able to control them with the change in temperature.
Lovely fabric. Are you & your family okay? I've read about the devastation happening and have seen photos of the fires. Know that I have all of your countrymen in my prayers.
